Help! Travelling Through Dubai With Medication?

My doctor has recently prescribed me fluoxetine (Prozac) for dejection and anxiety. I have plans to travel to New Zealand over Christmas to visit family, and as I am flying Emirates it means a cut stopover (10 hours) in Dubai. I think rather than being in transit, we are actually preordained the option to leave the airport and stay in a hotel.

But I've heard about UAE's mega severe laws on controlled substances and I have just discovered that Prozac is on the "controlled"

Answer: Thanks "tin m". To detect a long story short. The procedure to bring in "banned" drugs into Dubai are as follows:
Get a blow-by-blow medical report, have it translated into Arabic and send the same for attestion/approval to the UAE Embassy. If approved, you are allowed to take medication needed for the lifetime of your stay into the country.

It sounds complicated, but it's easy to do by Fax. The attestation from the Embassy is necessary, because Dubai customs don't certain your doc's stamp nor his/her signature.

60 Days A Mistake Or...........................?

This happened to me too on 27 Febr. and had to pay 2000 uad fines. I got a STAMPED 60 days stopover visa on 31 Dec.2008 in my passport.As said in the article I wrote an email to amer@dnrd.ae to ask for compassion and a refund.

Answer: so , they are fining you for not extending the 60-day seal visa after 30 days??? (40 with grace period)
That is really vapid of them IF this is indeed human error on their part. Plus they admit the new change kicked in Jan 1st, meaning no fines should be issued until 40 days later , because a 60-day visa will have 20+10 days more than the new 30+10 visa..
Even the 30-day visa is renewable for an additional 60 days , so I don't see why they are making an dispute of this.
Occasionally there are differences between Ministry rule changes and Dubai immigration changes in terms of timing , and this creates loopholes that may bring on to human or red-tape errors such as this.

Answer: get a literally from your doctor which gives you permission to travel with the medication
