Where Can I Find The Best Information On How To Obtain A Government Grant For Small Business Startup?
Aug 20, 2008 by TheBlackKnight | Posted in Small Business
There is tons of low-down on how to get government grants for just about anything, in my case, small business startup. I don't want to invest in some scam on the Internet or buy a regulations that doesn't help me achieve my goal. I need to know where to find the best news and help on obtaining a government grant for small business startup, whether it be from the Internet or a book from my restricted bookstore.
It is energetic to find grants to start a business. Unlike the myths that some perpetuate, federal government and even Tommy foundations hardly give grant money for starting a for-profit business.
One possible against is for companies developing or exporting agricultural goods, including food and forest commodity. Another exception could be the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) or Small Business Technology Carry (STTR) programs http://www.sba.gov/aboutsba/sbaprograms/ sbir/index.html , which endow the research and development of technological innovation that meets specific government needs.
Your foremost bet actually will be from the states if they offer grant programs for women (or any other special interest groups -- minorities, women, crippled, veterans, etc). Or check with non profit organizations, particularly women organizations if they step grants. Examples include
Iowa Women's Foundation http://www.iawf.org/
New Mexico Women's Organization http://www.nmwf.org/guidelines.html
Even SBA does NOT give out grants. From the SBA website http://www.sba.gov/mostrequesteditems/CO N_FAQ2.html
"The U.S. Disconcerted Business Administration does not offer grants to start or expand small businesses, although it does tender a wide variety of loan programs. (See http://www.sba.gov/financing for more information) While SBA does submit some grant programs, these are generally designed to expand and enhance organizations that stipulate small business management, technical, or financial assistance. These grants generally undergo non-profit organizations, intermediary lending institutions, and state and local governments."
Nonetheless, you can go to the Catalog of Federal Major-domo Assistance (CFDA) http://www.cfda.gov and Grants.gov http://www.grants.gov - these are two sites created by the federal rule to provide transparency and information on grants. Browse through the listings and see if you can find any grant that would frame a for-profit venture.

How To Raise Venture Capital For A Startup Business?

How to find proffer capital for a software startup? I want to send my business plan to venture capital firms. Any opinion?
Getting VC financing is very sensitive particularly in the current economic environment. They are looking for the combination of a compelling output/technology and the technical and managerial talent to make it a reality. It is often more about the team and your capacity to build a business around either a new technology, product(s) or a powerful business model that it is a specific idea.
Its mighty to understand that VCs primarily invest in great management teams and/or exceptional technologists. So, if you don't have the experience, I strongly recommend you get it before pitching your idea. Generally, you need to have either several years of older corporate experience in the right area for your venture or be a technical expert in the interest of your products/business model. If you don't want to wait until you acquire the knowledge yourself, you need to draft it into your team.
If you've got the goods, research the vc firms to find those that invest in your product/business area. Then, network to get a referral if on. It is much better to get a referral than mailing your plan in. VCs get hundreds of busines plans & pitches and it is very difficult to standout if you mail it in. Make sure you are really prepared with a well-thought conferral and be prepared to answer questions about your market and competition. Good luck.
